Join The Clubs: Club 75 and Computer Club

Big thanks to my friend Dave Fields who runs a great blog you'll find in my friends section called Drown Your Beliefs. Dave introduced me to Club 75 who will be playing the Sunday of Coachella. Club 75 doesn't have a lot of fan fare around them, but their lineup is beyond belief. Club 75 consists of Xaiver de Rosnay (1/2 of Justice), Zdar (aka Cassius and the producer of Phoenix), DJ Medhi and Busy P (founder of Ed Banger Records and Daft Punk's original manager.) Check out the link below to see Dave's blog and download a mix from Club 75. DO NOT miss them.

Computer Club is up next. His newest release with Frankmusik, "Losing Streak," jams out and his remixes should blow you away as well, especially the Ministry song "Just one Fix" which is bonkers. I've also thrown in an hour long mix he did some time back which is a good listen as well.

Computer Club - Just One Fix (Ministry Cover) - get this for sure.

Computer Club - Losing Streak

Computer Club - Bizarre Love Triangle (New Order Cover) - can't say I love this one but it grows.

Computer Club - Meeting 01

Bonus!
Frankmusik - Better off as Two (Starsmith Holidaying in the Heath Remix)

Be on the lookout for another post soon, as well as a special pre Coachella treat.

HOT MUFFIN AND MORE

Ahhhh Muffins. Delicious at all times, especially when hot, and like your breakfast muffins these tracks satisfy. Unlike your muffins though, you'll want to gobble up more than just the tops of these.  Not too much is available about this producer that I have found except that he is a 19 year old out of Melbourne (who apparently loves Genesis) representing their music scene which seems to be producing a lot of amazing talent.  These two tracks "Seagulls" and "Beach Road" are all around amazing and really something exciting. Synth heavy and groovy they really compliment this warm weather and sunshine well. He's new so expect to hear a lot more from him in the future.

If you haven't heard of Lindstrom by now you should, so you're welcome. Lindstrom is a Norweigan producer who has worked mainly with Prins Thomas (another Norweigan producer) in the past, recently collaborating with Christabelle to release their stellar new album Real Life is No Cool. Seriously, if you don't have this album go get it. Smooth tracks with Christabelle's unique voice over them that go between ethereal and all out swanky disco.

Songs Removed By Request - Snooze you Loose

Also for shits n giggles, I'm throwing in a Kris Menace Remix of the Bag Raiders track "Shooting Stars" because its been my jam for a while and frankly, it's selfish of me not to share it. Kris Menace does a number on it, and it should treat you well too.

COACHELLA DAY 3

Here is the last post in my Coachella review. Hopefully you've all enjoyed the last two, and I have to say I'm glad this is the last one not only because it means Coachella is close but because I get to stop writing these crazy long posts and get to start posting again on new music which as been backing up on my computer.  So without any delay here is Day 3. As you'll notice I'm totally over writing these long descriptions so I'm keep it short and sweet. Enjoy.

Any artists I mark with a  means I'll be seeing them for sure so make sure you come by and say hi. I've also tried to include as many collaborative tracks as possible so you can hear the different DJ's and artists playing Coachella covering or remixing each others tracks. All tracks are in one folder so enjoy and pass along to friends and sign up for the email list.

Additional acts not mentioned here can be found on the official website.  There are also additions going on up until the day of the show. I'll let you know of anyone of note that is added as they show up and I get the time.

COACHELLA DAY 2

Second Day of Coachella. In years past Saturday was normally the day with the biggest names, but with only three day passes being sold the lineup seems a little more evenly spread out this year with no one day standing out as having all the big names. Saturday does have a lot of great bands and DJ's playing so check out below what you're in store for.

COACHELLA DAY 1!

Ahhh Coachella. Quite possibly the best weekend of the year. Amazing bands, jaw dropping surroundings, various inebriants, and a naked wizard! So to work up to this magical, crazy weekend you won't totally remember here is Day 1 of Coachella.  All the bands I've listed below are ones I think are worth checking out whether its for the whole show or just a few songs. I've put in a few tracks for each artist so that you can get a feel for them and decide for yourself who to go and see. I'll keep the writing short and to the point because there are a lot of groups and I don't feel like writing a novel for each one.

It's Sexual and Violent

The three day weekend is here (for most of us) so I thought I would throw together a mix for everyone to get down to. Because Sunday is Valentine's day, I decided to be a gentle lover and do this right. Ill first wine and dine you with an apertif of some Love Commitee, Priors, French Horn Rebellion vs Database, and Erik Hassle. Then it's on to caviar wishes and champagne dreams as it heats up to full dance party so you can get your sweat on before getting it on.

Full track list below:
(if it has a ! at the end, turn it up)

1. Love Committee - Just As Long As I Got You (Disco Re-Edit By Dimitri From Paris)
2. Priors - What you Need (Hey Champ Remix)
3. Database vs French Horn Rebellion - Beach & Friends (Twelves Remix)
4. Erik Hassle - Hurtful (Penguin Prison Remix)
5. Passion Pit - The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix)
6. The Virgins - Rich Girls (LeCastle Vania Remix) !!
7. Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Grum Remix)
8. Who Da Funk et al - Diskow Party (Celebrity Murder Party) !
9. IAMX - Spit It Out (Designer Drugs Remix)
10. Wolfgang Gartner - Montezuma !
11. Annie - Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix) !!
12. Ke$ha - Tik Tok (Fred Falke Remix)
13. Gooseflesh - Still Wild
14. Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me (Grum Remix)

All this fits on one CD so enjoy.

If you didn't receive an email from me, send me a heads up at
refractoryperiod@gmail.com and I'll put you on the email list.

Now for the digestif on the evening...

Have a great weekend of loving love. More posts to come soon.

P.S. sorry for the formatting problems, blogger is being an asshole.

Dirty Cowboy

Friday night at V Lounge was a total shit show in the best way. Classix and Holy Ghost! went off.  Through the magic of technology and binge drinking, I was able to recreate myself cutting that place up. Above is a video of me busting out with more energy than a five hearted hummingbird on crank. I was flowing, lucid, and on fuckin' fire as exhibit A notes.

I've put up two Classixx mixes I got last year for you to enjoy.

More to follow this week, if I have the time I'm going to put together a little three day weekend mix and put it up.

(Check out TV Carnage DVD's (who did the above video) if you ever want to have a good, weird laugh. I've got a few and they are always a trip.)

Wu-Tang vs Beatles, meet Frank vs Biggie

Blue Eyes meets Bed Stuy is an old mixtape thats been floating around forever. I recently got a complete copy of it (my old one had three tracks missing) and thought I would post it up for everyone to grab if you don't have it.

Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers is a new mash up mix that just got put out and is pretty impressive in my opinion.  Give it a download and enjoy.

Ill be back later this week with another post with more substantial writing and links, promise.

Swede Party

What's up with Sweden and awesome music? Lykke Li, Shout Out Louds, Jens Lekman, The Hives, and The Sounds. The only thing that might be better is Swedish softcore, but that's another topic for another time.

In the same Nordic, fish eating, flaxen haired and all around great tradition is Erik Hassle, a pop singer who makes some pretty great tunes.  Normally I'm not a big fan of the whole pop singer/songwriter deal but I really like Erik.  His voice has a different, unpolished quality to it but still comes out strong with emotion.  It also probably helps that he has insane geometric red hair a la Sideshow Bob and is so pale he almost translucent.  His album isn't out here yet, but the single for the song "Hurtful" is available on iTunes and the earliest video the song is below.  Following it are two more videos where he covers "Solsbury Hill" and "Nothing Else Matters" (my favorite) which I think show off his chops best. He has a lot of these really cool impromptu-esqe covers on youtube so check them out.

His songs also seem to get remixed in a fantastic way nearly everytime someone gives it a go (same thing with Friendly Fires). Its pretty hard to find a bad remix of one of his songs, or even decide what's the best, but you'll find three below that I enjoy the most.

I have no idea what a Penguin Prison is, but if they play this music there I'm booking a ticket down south to stomp on some of those happy-feet bastards until they throw me in. That's how good this is.

Via con dios amigos.

(Please note - I had to take down the links to the youtube videos because the blog cops didnt check the links and thought they were downloads, not youtube links.  So fuck it you had enough time anyways.)

I'm going to Hollywood man, and this hair is gonna get me paid!

As the name of the blog suggests, this exists to get you excited about new music and upcoming events, anything that stimulates your membranes. In the meantime between those moments you will have this blog, The Refractory Period, to guide you through the downtime.

In the coming weeks I will be posting my first annual Coachella Primer with tracks and band summaries from everyone I think should be worth seeing over those three magical days where its not only your skin that gets fried under the sun.

I hope you enjoy my opinions and musical selections and I promise to keep them coming as I get more and more stuff to post.

Enjoy these three posts to start this off.

Awesome remix of an already good Ellie Golding track. Not sure who Jakwob is but I love the way he tweaks out the bass on it.

One of my favorite bands right now. Out of Portland, Ore they have an awesome new wave meets soul sound that is best exemplified on this track and "Song Away" as well. Pick up the album Mind Chaos and see them live you wont regret it.

Again Hockey but a great remix of the same song for y'all to boogie too.

Hope you enjoy and Ill be back soon with more nuggets for everyone to get down to.
